So many years I lived under the impression that, if I know something, everyone else also know it. I presume that many of us have the same thinking. I read the 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen covey for the first time 12 years back and I read it multiple times after it, and I presumed that everyone else in the planet earth have read it. To my disbeleief, from my interactions with my workshop participants, I understand that, the majority are not aware of it. This is just an example. There can be many similar examples. I think I developed this syndrome by constantly trying to compare myself with people who are better than me, in different ways and in the process, I lost out on where I stand.
This prompts me to ask another question to myself. How much did I benefit from the 7 habits?. To be honest, yes, I did benefit some, and at the same time, I could have benefitted from these concepts much much more. So again I dusted the 7 habits book, just to recap the foundations;
Here are the seven habits;
Habits leading to private victory
- Be proactive
- Begin with the end in mind
- Put first things first
Habits leading to public victory
- Think win-win
- Seek first to understand and then to be understood
- Synergize
Habit 7 – Sharpen the saw
